"Prepare Every Needful Thing"

For 2013, we chose the scripture in D&C 88:119 as our annual theme: "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God; That your incomings may be in the name of the Lord; that your outgoings may be in the name of the Lord..."

What does it take to build such a house?! We're going to work hard to find out this year.

Thanksgiving Week

The kids had a very generous allotment of the whole week of Thanksgiving off from school.  Jonny took some time off work and we traveled to Safford.  We always look forward to spending time at Grandpa and Grandma Clark's house where we partake of Grandpa's special sauce on just about everything we eat, tour through Grandpa's garden, and enjoy visiting with Grandma.  Christi was also eager to do some advance scouting for the Crandall Reunion plans.

During a walk with the dogs in the neighborhood, Christi was trying to locate houses that held any Crandall family significance.  She found Harriet Crandall's house and as she was taking a picture of it, the owner walked out.  She briefly explained the purpose of the picture and the owner invited her inside and look around.  Christi was also able to meet with her dad's cousin, Suedette Reed and collaborate with family history information.  She left well-informed and with a few treasures of pictures and an autobiography of Samuel Claridge.

On Wednesday, our family left and headed to Tucson.  There we enjoyed a few days with Bill and Laurel's family.  The kids were able to go and see Disney's "Tangled" movie about Rapunzel which they loved.  We enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving Feast.  On Friday, we toured through the Colossal Caves.  My older kids LOVED it.  Jay was especially intrigued and as usual wants to write a report and give a lecture to his class on it (known as show-and tell).  Darren was a bit young and somewhat nervous in the dark and closed atmosphere but overall did fine.  We traveled home, thereafter, so that Christi could be home on her birthday.

Saturday was a wonderful day.  Christi wanted to compose a blog entitled "Ode to my children" because they were so kind and considerate to each other all day long.  The kids under Jay's direction and Jonny's assistance made a breakfast of pancakaes, bacon, icy OJ, and eggs meant for Christi to eat in bed.  Jonny had to shoo her back to the bedroom for this purpose.  After receiving her breakfast in bed and reading some funny cards, she asked if she could join them at the table and enjoy their conversation instead.

So it was a very full and enjoyable week.
