"Prepare Every Needful Thing"

For 2013, we chose the scripture in D&C 88:119 as our annual theme: "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God; That your incomings may be in the name of the Lord; that your outgoings may be in the name of the Lord..."

What does it take to build such a house?! We're going to work hard to find out this year.

New Years Resolutions

We contemplated this weekend on New Years Resolutions and came up with the following. Our family goals are: Jonny/Christi attending the temple at least 6 times, 100% Home Teaching and Visiting Teaching, finishing the BOM as a family (Helaman thru Moroni), reading the New Testament individually, and a couple financial goals.

Individually, we set 4 categories of goals: Financial, Spiritual, Educational, and Physical.

Jonny - Complete brakes, electrical and propane tanks on the bronco; Daily AM Personal Prayer; and reduce weight to 240 lbs.

Christi - Save towards down payment on a house, read scriptures daily at 5:30 am; become proficient at Adobe Elements 7.0; and reduce weight to 155-160 lbs.

Jay - Save $150 (for a DSI); Complete Faith in God requirements; shower every night; Straight A's and E's; able to run/walk a mile in 10 minutes.

Nikki - Save $220; Complete Faith in God requirements; Straights A's and E's; run/walk a mile in 10 minutes.

Britton - Learn Articles of Faith 1-4; "E" on homework; and able to do 5 pushups.

Josh - Learn 1st Article of Faith; Recognize alphabet letters, and do 50 jumping jacks.

Darren - Learn to pray; Count 1-11; and be potty-trained.

To start the year off right, we continued with our study of the Book of Mormon. Tonight we read 3 chapters pertaining to the 2000 Stripling Warriors (Ammonites) under the leadership of Helaman. After reading the first chapter, Jonny could detect that the children's focus was dwindling so he called for a role play of Alma 59. The story describes how the Nephites separate into two armies. When the first army (2000 Stripling Warriors) passes by a large army of Lamanites, the Lamanites pursue them but are unknowingly followed by the second Nephite army led by Antipus thus forming a "sandwich". The Ammonites keep marching ahead quickly and everybody stops at night to rest but then at day break marches again until Antipus catches up in the rear. On the third day of marching, the 2000 Stripling Warriors or Ammonites realize that they are no longer being pursued and suspect that Antipus has caught up. So they turn around and sandwich the Lamanites in a battle.

Jonny declared himself the Lamanite army since he is the biggest. Nikki led 2 Stripling warriors (Josh and Darren) armed with a wooden dowel and a foam sword on a march around the house ahead of Jonny. Christi (Antipus) and her army of Jay marched after Jonny with everyone stopping periodically for nightfall (snoring included). Then on the third day, Antipus and Jay armed with an Indiana Jones cloth whip and a plastic sword engaged Jonny the Wicked Lamanite in battle. Antipus was shortly thereafter killed and Jay danced around in confusion until Nikki with her 2 stripling warriors returned to join the battle. The Nephites were victorious in conquering the Lamanites and taking them prisoner. AND Jonny was victorious in capturing the kids attention long enough to read two more chapters.
