"Prepare Every Needful Thing"

For 2013, we chose the scripture in D&C 88:119 as our annual theme: "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God; That your incomings may be in the name of the Lord; that your outgoings may be in the name of the Lord..."

What does it take to build such a house?! We're going to work hard to find out this year.

Happy Birthday Jay

Jay wanted to open presents with his Dad but didn't want to wait until dinnertime. So Jay, Nikki, Britton, and Mommy woke up at 4:30am with Daddy because he leaves for work at 5am.

Jay opened his cards first. His present was a personal ATM machine with debit card. He then deposited his cash inside and felt rich indeed. He chose baked potatoes for his birthday breakfast which made Christi glad because of the early hour. We nuked them in the microwave and ate them with butter, cheese, and ketchup.

Nikki picked out a book for Jay (The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan...ssshhhhh don't tell Jay) but it won't arrive until tomorrow. Jonny is taking our family to a monster truck show on Friday night to celebrate both his and Jay's birthday.

After opening presents and eating breakfast, the kids layed on the trampoline to watch the sunrise.

When Josh woke up, he saw the birthday poster on the wall and was so excited. He ran and gave Jay a hug and said "Happy Birthday Jay!...it's your birthday!" That was the best gift of all.

For dinner, we're having Hawaiian Haystacks (Jay's favorite). Jay has a couple friends coming over after school to catch a ride to Cub Scouts. Jay is officially a Webelos scout today.

Just as everyone was gathered around the table to eat Hawaiian Haystacks with only 30 minutes to spare before Cub Scouts started, I realized that I had forgotten to cook the rice. Doh! So we ate cake first while I spent the next 14 minutes making rice. That gave us only 10 minutes to eat dinner and rush over. I'm so glad that we live near the church building. At least the jello turned out pretty.
