"Prepare Every Needful Thing"

For 2013, we chose the scripture in D&C 88:119 as our annual theme: "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God; That your incomings may be in the name of the Lord; that your outgoings may be in the name of the Lord..."

What does it take to build such a house?! We're going to work hard to find out this year.

Veteran's Day Parade

Yuma is largely a military town.  There are the Yuma Proving Grounds which test every military component for desert warfare.  Then there is also the MCAS (Marine Corps Air Station) next to our airport which happens to have one of the longest air strips in our country which is actually also a standby for a NASA shuttle landing.  Additionally, our beautiful winter attracts many "snowbirds" of which most seem to be veterans.  Then add to that all of the police, fire, and border patrol which keep so busy in our area.  We have a deep respect for the flag and our freedom here in Yuma because we rub shoulders with so many of the service members at church and at work who defend our country.  So, our Veteran's day parade is probably our best parade.  Plus we can walk to this one from our house.  It's becoming a tradition in our family.

It's "Bumble Bee" the transformer!

It's especially fun to watch the bands go by now that Jay plays the trumpet.  He'll be there in just a couple more years!  Living so close to the border also gives us some very cool mariachi bands and Mexican guitar players.  They always remind me of Poppy Rick.  The other parts of the parade that we enjoy as well represent the 4H programs and the scouting programs.
